MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY MEETING OF THE
KERNOW HANG GLIDING AND PARAGLIDING ASSOCIATION.
AT THE CLINTON SOCIAL HALL ON 11TH FEBRUARY 2002.

Having difficulty in absorbing his unexpected elevation to high office the new chairman asked the old chairman to conduct the business of the meeting for this last occasion.

There were APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE from Peter Merritt, Roger Green and Dave Everett away in the Gulf of Mexico.

MINUTES of the January meeting were read and with one query about the date of the British Clubs Challenge Final, approved and signed.

MATTERS ARISING
Pilot Ratings. The response from Harriet was given a guarded welcome. After discussion it was agreed that our proposed XC Pilot Rating was really needed but we will await the response from Angus before pushing the matter further.

Site Guides are further delayed pending the decision on the motion to change the name of the Association.

Web Site. The prompt introduction of the site and especially the Bulletin Board was welcomed. Alan made the point that although the Bulletin Board is a great way to post information quickly we must remember that not all members have www. access or will log in to the site regularly. The monthly Club Bulletin is still the first line of communication and all important information must be passed to the editor for earliest publication. Further information regarding club affairs or business should first be cleared with or at least advised to, the Appropriate club officer.

Tow Syndicate. Alan took the opportunity to say that in addition to expense of the Culdrose association the Syndicate will have to obtain an Airband Transceiver. It seems Mike Richards has one which may be available.

Steve Pen’ Memorial Project. Still in hand.

Training. Graham reported some useful progress made.

British Clubs Challenge. Patrick was not present to confirm the dates. Alan is to check then correct the record as necessary.

Money. Vicki said some subscriptions had come in but there are many more outstanding.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS.
Roger Full’s Accident. Pete reported that Roger was almosr recovered. All members were mightily pleased about this.

Vault Bay Site. Alec told us of his visit with Roger Green to see Dr. Greenaway with the traditional bottle of appreciation. They found a new owner in occupation - Steve Walsh , youngish with a family and very helpful and approachable. We can carry on as before. It seems he will be grazing his own sheep on the fields and Alec was asked to take any opportunity to explore the possibility of landing in the fields inland of the road.

Pips told members the proposed date for his sub aqua evening is 15th March not 15th Feb. Up to 20 members can join in at the Redruth School Pool and afterwards at the Portreath arms. Names to Pips please.

Pete said the Frostbite Comp is on for this week end . As he has the arrangements in hand he will continue and liaise with Steve, the new Comps organiser. There followed an account of the rather revolting effect even small quantities of beer have on the digestive system of some very experienced pilot.
Mark referred members to the article in Skywings regarding the limited safe life of rigging wires. He is concerned that there are many gliders of the Kiss era still in regular use and some using the original rigging.

That ended the association’s business for the evening.
