MINUTES OF THE JULY MEETING OF THE
KERNOW HANG GLIDING & PARAGLIDING ASSOCIATION
AT THE CLINTON SOCIAL CLUB ON 8th JULY 2002

MINUTES of the last meeting were read and after a small amendment, agreed and signed.

MATTERS ARISING.
Competitions. Steve the Hawk gave an account of the British Hang Gliding Series comp in North Wales and the British Clubs Challenge Southern semi final in SE Wales in which Kernow qualified with a third position. Patrick said he had no news of the Northern Semi Finals. He added that we will need a strong team for the finals in SE Wales on the August Bank Holiday week end.
Towing. There has been no towing since our last meeting. Paul asked what he could expect if he joined the syndicate? Pete replied that to get towing active we need to educate pilots in the advantages of towing from inland sites over coastal flying. Alan enquired about Daisy’s possible senior coach rating and a winch operator rating for Patrick. Paraglider pilots present were interested in a week end training session for pilots, winch operators and coaches at either Culdrose at a school. Members considered that a local training course would be best. Mark asked about the provision of a winch for paraglider launching. Graham advised that a simple, inexpensive pay out winch was best. Geof Hoer was noted as a possible Senior Instructor to run a course. It was suggested that interested pilots should hassle Vicki or Alan, the towing co-ordinators, to get towing meetings organised.
Steve’s Seat. A final decision from the Carrick officer is still awaited but recent conversations indicate we can expect a favourable outcome.
Training. Phippsy said “been out a bit with Alan and Kathy . Paul and Gay now flying independently have been expanding their flying.” Phippsy warned of a rogue pilot trying to fly in the dunes at Perran and reminded pilots to observe the red flag when flown over the Penhale Training Camp.
Culdrose Air Day. A number of members indicated they will be available to man the virtual glider and the display stands. Pete said that he will not attend the Blorenge Bash if the weather is unsuitable and other means must be found to bring the BHPA van with the virtual hang glider down. Nigel said he would drive it down if another member would drive him up. Alan said he could do this on Monday if necessary. Possible problem solved!. The meeting agreed that the Association should cover the fuel costs of this operation.
Festival of Free Flight. Patrick, Big Brian, Paul and Alan said they would be present to support Daisy. John A. and Nigel are possible extras.

OTHER BUSINESS.
Tim told the meeting “I have the library Here” and invited members to make other material available.
Phippsy recommended the social side of Association away days at competitions and hoped more members will join in. He then described a day spent aerial posing for a team filming for BBC Southwest TV
VICKI as Treasurer asked we could reimburse Paul for the costs of making the Penaluna Trophy. Paul said no, it is his gift to the club, but he would like agreement to suitable inscriptions being made on the trophy by the association. The Chairman ruled that this would have to be agreed between Paul and Hannah.

50 Club. Vicki performed the usual ritual rewarding Phil Davies with the £5 prize and Steve (Rich Banker) Hawken with £15.

And that concluded the business for the evening at 21.43.
