MINUTES OF THE MAY MEETING OF THE
KERNOW HANG GLIDING & PARAGLIDING ASSOCIATION
AT HE CLINTON SOCIAL CLUB ON 13TH MAY 2002.

Pete in the Chair welcomed members and a prospective member, Pete a PG pilot lately from Bermuda.

APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE were received for Roger Full, John Sekula, Mark Woodhams John Woolhams and Alan Ashford.
MINUTES of the last meeting were read approved and signed.

MATTERS ARISING.
COMPETITIONS. Phippsy gave an account of the British Open competition where Kernow were represented by Patrick, Steve the Hawk, Karl Sweeney and of course himself. The first tasks for the day were an XC and navigation test of approx’ 100 miles by car followed by a fence jumping contest. Hang gliding then took over and after two tasks on the first two days the result gave the Kernow Team first place with individual placings of 3rd for Phippsy, 10th for Patrick, 18th for Steve and 28th for Karl.
Tim described the Kernow Team flying at the BCC competition the Blorenge and Phippsy came back again with a report on the Bleriot Cup flying.
Although not part of an organised competition Mark Presland described his efforts at PGXC flying from King Tor.

PILOT RATINGS. Alan reported on the absence of any reply from Angus and the comments by the BHPA Chairperson. It was agreed we should test the situation by pilots submitting applications for Pilot Rating supported by a completed test paper and a recommendation from the Association’s senior coach in place of the problematical flying tasks.

WEB SITE. Alan passed on news from John Sekula to say that the site is being updated and that the publication of the Site guide is in hand.

TOWING. Vicki told members about the weekend towing at Culdrose. There were five members and a visitor. Conditions were testing with a fresh wind from a difficult direction. Members are urged to contact Vicki or Alan whenever week end weather looks possible for towing.

STEVE’S SEAT. Still awaiting advice from Carrick DC. Pete says he has seen a seat recently position between our site and Trevaunance Cove.

TRAINING. Phippsy reported on flying at Carbis bay with soaring flights by Gay, Paul and Nigel Nigel has now completed all his HG CPC tasks with a 97% score in his written test. Alan Ashford and Mark Presland are making good progress.

BRITISH CLUBS CHALLENGE. Patrick said that two more clubs are entered. In the current score Kernow lie 5th.

MONEY. Vicki said there were still some renewals to come in. The black list was sent for publication in the Bulletin but no Bulletin has appeared.

SOCIAL EVENTS. The clay pigeon shoot is still being arranged and will probably take place a very short notice so watch for an announcement on the website.
OTHER BUSINESS.

FESTIVAL OF FREE FLIGHT. Some members will be away on the Larangue trip but Daisy is keen to attend FOFF with a team to operate the winch. Available members please contact Daisy.

XC REGISTRAR. As Rob has indicated he no longer wishes to do this work Tim was pressed into office and requested to resume the publication of flights and scores in the Bulletin.

INCIDENTS. The Association senior HG coach was called apon to explain the demolition of 2 uprights in 2 landings at the end of 2 British Open task flights.

LARANGUE TRIP. Members were urged to consolidate their group arrangements.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS.
PETE told members that Shirley Bazeley was now out of hospital and making a full recovery.
PAUL described an incident flying at Carbis Bay.
PHIPPSY told of Phil Whitelaw’s PG XC from Carn Brea to Stithians. Says Phil is really trying.
NIGEL thanked Phippsy for his great help in achieving his CPC.
PETER M asked about web site links with the BHPA site. This is being referred to www.john.
BIG BRIAN enquired about progress with the proposed pay out winch and paraglider towing.
TIM as librarian accepted two more books and suggested that other members may have books, videos &ect they could contribute. Tim would publish a list of available material.

THE 50 CLUB draw was made. Patrick grabbed the £5 prize and Paul Wicks got the £15 prize. A reward for making an appearance at a club meeting.

And that completed the business for the month at 21.40.
